William Versluys Sr.

William Albert “Wild Bill” VerSluys Sr., passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at his home in Grand Rapids. Bill was born in Brookings, SD., to the late William and Dorothy (Story) VerSluys. He was a graduate of Coopersville High School and was employed as a cook at The Beltline Bar for over 30 years.  Bill was a kind, compassionate and caring man. He enjoyed helping at Trinity Church on Leonard St and assisted in serving meals on Thursday nights and also enjoyed playing the Michigan Lottery. Bill is survived by his sons, William A. (Crystal) VerSluys Jr., Kevin VerSluys and Nicholas VerSluys; grandson, Jacob VerSluys; siblings, Gloria  Aadland, Sue Warmuskerken, Patsy (Ken) Burke, DeWayne VerSluys, John VerSluys, Jodi (Mike) MacDonald, Dave (Nancy) VerSluys and Dean (Lynn) VerSluys; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Bill was also preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet (Robert) Zimmer and Cheryl (Charles) Knight, sister-in-law, Tammy VerSluys, brothers-in-law, Otis Warmuskerken and Nathaniel Aadland and nieces, Karen Zimmer and Melissa Aadland; nephews, Tim MacDonald and Matthew VerSluys. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. on Saturday May 29, 2021 at the First Reformed Church of Ravenna, 3327 Mortimer St, Ravenna, MI 49451 with Rev Rick Christy and Rev. Steve VanderWoude officiating. Burial will take place in Hilton Cemetery, 15565 Laketon Ave, Casnovia, MI 49318. Visitation will be held at the church in Ravenna one hour prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
