September 19, 1934 — December 4, 2021

Passed away Saturday Dec 4 at age 87. She was preceded in death by her parents Jozef & Anna Svancarek, Siblings: Antonia, Klement, Josef & Karol, and her beloved husband Walter Mrnka. She will be missed by daughters Anna (Miro) Hromnik, Slovakia, Melanie (John) Nelson of Indianapolis, IN, son Joseph Mrnka of Ravenna, grandson Patrik Nelson and his son Gavin of Indianapolis, sister in law Libusa in Czechia, and nieces and nephews in Slovakia and Czechia. Born and raised in former Czechoslovakia. Lost her dad to illness at the outset of WW2. Witnessed her mom raise 5 children through thick and thin of the war and post war years. At age of 36 she married Walter Mrnka and came to America. Other than the 8 years spent with the family in Czechoslovakia, during the eighties, she resided in the Ravenna area and briefly with her daughter in Indianapolis. During her lifetime she went from a store clerk to store manager at age 17. She worked in a plating factory in her early 20s when health reasons caused her to take a job as bartender. After this taking a train conductor job that she really enjoyed for over a dozen years. But the most satisfaction came from gardening, traveling, and cooking for her family and friends. Member of the Muskegon congregation of Grace Communion International since 1994, after her husband Walter passed away, she wowed her fellow congregants with many tasty treats for fellowship hour, and eventually hosting the small remnant of the congregation in her home in Ravenna. A graveside service will be held at the Ravenna Township Cemetery on Friday Dec 10, at 2 pm.
