Mary Lawson

September 20, 1921 — June 25, 2022

Mary Eileen (nee Ryan) Lawson (100 years old) passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 25, 2022, in Coopersville, Michigan.

Mary was born near Hartford, Michigan, to John Patrick and Sarah Rose (Latus) Ryan. She was a 1939 graduate of Hartford High School and attended Western Michigan University before marrying Kenneth W. Lawson in 1942. They were married for 58 years and were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet, Michigan.

In her younger years, Mary loved to dance at Crystal Palace and socialize with friends and relatives who would visit from Chicago. She loved spending time with her family and often reflected about all of the changes she had seen over her 100 years of living. She lived through reading by candlelight with no electricity, through "The Great Depression", World Wars. and pandemics. She had a competitive spirit and her granddaughter described her as "a perfect combination of sassy and sweet, beautiful inside and out ~ and suspiciously good at playing card games"! She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, aunt and cousin.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Lawson; daughter, Constance Saurbier (Millburg); parents John Patrick  and Sarah Rose (Latus) Ryan; half sisters, Margret Meehl (Coloma, MI), Josephine Rausch (Colfax, IL), and Rachel Solecki (Schnectady, NY).

She is survived by her daughters Pat (Al) Leverton (Coopersville), Kay Lawson (Coopersville), and Marilyn Sue (David) Nestell of Spring Lake; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was also very close to nieces, nephews, and cousins who were devoted to her as well.

Private funeral arrangements and burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (Watervliet) will be made at a future date. Donations to Hospice of North Ottawa Community, Attn: Fund Development Office 1309 Sheldon Road Grand Haven, MI 49417 would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left on her tribute wall at www.throopfh.com
