Thomas (Tom) Lee Clayton, age 84, passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 25, 2024. He was born in Elkins, WV to the late Franklin and Freda (Spicer) Clayton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elisabeth (Bachert) Clayton, sisters Mary Lou Gardi and Helen Louise Kittle.

Tom lived a life of service his entire life and very much loved his country.  He was a retired military veteran and dedicated 20 years in the Marines/Army.  He served in the Honor Guard for many years and felt it was a great privilege to pay the proper respect to our military families.   Tom was an avid Red Cross blood donor and was recognized for his lifetime contribution.  He was also involved in various volunteer opportunities such as Adopt-A-Highway and Dept of VA Voluntary Services, and gave generously to many different charities to include Wounded Warrior, Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Salvation Army to name a few.

Tom loved reading, fishing, and going for walks through the woods.  When it came to sports, he loved everything West Virginia Mountaineers and enjoyed his “almost daily” conversations with his brother Pete to discuss scores and strategies.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and got great joy from his great-grandson Thomas.  Tom will be deeply missed by his family and children; Lee Clayton and fiancé Heidi, Lynn (Patrick) Montano and Michelle (Tim) Huston; grandchildren, Courtney, Joshua, Michael, Marie, Matthew, Dillon, Austin, Taylor, Evan, great-grandson Thomas; and brother, Pete (Diane) Clayton.

Tom attended Coopersville United Methodist Church and loved God with all his heart. Memorial donations may be made to:  Coopersville Methodist Church, 105 68th Ave N, Coopersville MI  49404.

In keeping with his wish, cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest with his loving wife at West Virginia National Cemetery/Grafton.
