Steven Jacob “Steve” Spoelman, age 66, of Ravenna, Michigan, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Ravenna, after a courageous battle with heart disease and cancer.
Steve was born on September 2, 1959 in Grant, Michigan and was a graduate of Ravenna High School, class of 1977. He was a construction worker and farmed much if his life, something that was ingrained in him from his youth. Steve worked hard and took pride in doing honest work and in contributing to the world around him with quiet strength and integrity.
Steve is survived by his children, Amanda Skuse, Jacob and Cindy Spoelman, Sabra and Dalton Jacobs, Daniel and Heather Spoelman, and Benjamin Garner. He also leaves behind several grandchildren who brought him great joy and pride. Steve is further survived by his siblings, Timothy and Maureen Spoelman, Mark and Rose Spoelman, Julie Helsen, Kathy and Brian Prentkiewicz, Matt and Kim Spoelman, Connie and Alan Leonard, Chris and Greg Simington, and Todd Spoelman; sister-in-law, Jodie Spoelman and many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Arlene Spoelman, a sister who died at birth, another sister, Mary Spoelman and brother, Jeff Spoelman.
Steve will be remembered as a loving, wise, and gentle man whose presence brought comfort and reassurance to those around him. He found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life, including hunting, fishing, and gardening; and while he liked solitude at times, Steve especially treasured the time he spent with his family and grandchildren. His quiet, but strong faith in God was a guiding force throughout his life and gave him strength in both good times and difficult ones.
Though he will be deeply missed, the love he gave and the example he set will remain a lasting comfort to all who knew him.
In keeping with Steve’s wishes and honoring his request, a private committal service will take place with his children and grandchildren with burial by his parents in Ravenna Township Cemetery. The family encourages family, friends and loved ones to stop at the cemetery and say their goodbyes at a later time. Condolences for the family may be left on Steve’s guestbook at www.throopfh.com. Arrangements by Throop Funeral Home, Coopersville, MI. ph. 616-837-8161.
