Sigfried Richard Hostad, known to many as Sig, passed away on October 9, 2026, in Coopersville, Michigan, at the age of 78.
He was born on December 22, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan, and lived a life marked by service, loyalty, and a warm spirit that touched the lives of those around him. Sig was a funny, friendly, and kind man whose presence brought comfort and laughter to family and friends alike. He carried himself with quiet strength and a genuine appreciation for the simple pleasures in life, and those who knew him will remember him for the steady way he met each day.
Sig served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, a chapter of his life that reflected his dedication and sense of duty. Following his service, he retired from the United States Air Force, carrying with him the values of discipline, commitment, and pride in his work. His military service remained an important part of his identity throughout his life, and he was respected for the example he set through his service and character.
Outside of his years of service, Sig enjoyed a life filled with the pastimes that brought him peace and happiness. He loved fishing and hunting, and he found enjoyment in watching the news and staying informed about the world around him. He especially treasured spending time with his nephew Ted, and those moments were among the most meaningful in his life. Whether sharing conversation, enjoying the outdoors, or simply being present with loved ones, Sig valued time well spent and the relationships that gave his life richness.
He was also a life member of the Marne American Legion Post 376, where he maintained a lasting connection to fellow veterans and the community. His membership reflected both his pride in his military service and his continued support of those who shared similar experiences. Through this association, he remained part of a brotherhood that honored service, camaraderie, and remembrance.
Sig was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will carry forward memories of his humor, kindness, and friendly nature. His family will remember him not only for the life he lived, but also for the way he made others feel welcomed and valued. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the lessons remembered, and the love that remains among those who knew him best.
