Sheila Marie Skillern, age 70, of Coopersville, Michigan, passed away on May 11, 2026. She was born on June 7, 1955, in Graysville, Tennessee, and lived a life marked by love, kindness, and devotion to the people around her.
Sheila was a loving, funny, and friendly woman whose warmth touched everyone who knew her. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever family or friends needed anything. Her caring nature and steady presence made her a treasured part of the lives of those closest to her.
Family was at the center of Sheila’s life, and she cherished every moment spent with the people she loved. She will be deeply missed by her children, Christopher (Heidi) Miedema, Mandria (Kris) Platte; her mother, Billie Green; her sister, Patty Tripp; her grandchildren, Tayler (Loane) Parson, Maci Miedema; her great-grandchildren, Madison Homan, Liliana Yee, and Ethan Homan; Richards children, Abigail (Keith) Burns, Gabrielle Schuiling and Andrew Watson, Chad Schuiling; nephews, Eric (Meredith) Stroud, Tom (Emily) Stroud. She was preceded in death by her father, William Skillern, her brother-in-law, David Tripp, and the love of her life, Richard Schuiling.
Sheila found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. She loved spending time with family and friends and treasured being present for the people who mattered most to her. She was an avid Ohio State football fan and enjoyed watching her grandson race cars. Trips to Siesta Key, Florida, were especially dear to her, where she enjoyed visiting friends and making lasting memories. Her interests reflected her love of connection, loyalty, and the happiness she found in sharing time with others.
Those who knew Sheila will remember her for her loving heart, her sense of humor, and her friendly spirit. She carried herself with compassion and sincerity, and her presence brought comfort and joy to many. Her life was a reflection of devotion to family, friendship, and the special bonds that endure through the years.
Sheila’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Her family and friends will forever cherish the laughter, kindness, and love she shared throughout her life.
Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St., Coopersville, MI 49404. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Throop Funeral Home with Pastor Marilyn Danelson Officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Lori’s Voice, P.O.
