Roberta Bolthouse

November 22, 1929 — November 6, 2013

Roberta Mae (Zuidema) Bolthouse passed away peacefully on November 6, 2013 at the Christian Rest Home, where she resided since April 2009. She was born on November 22, 1929 to James Menno and Ethel May (Parsons) Zuidema in Coopersville, MI. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her baby sister Lorraine, infant brother Robert, and sister Mary Lou (Glenn) Peterson. After graduating from Coopersville High School in 1948, Roberta attended beauty school and in 1953 opened Robertaéaas Beauty Salon in Marne, MI. One of her best customers introduced her to Walt Bolthouse and they were married on March 14, 1958 at Coopersville Bible Church. She exchanged her business career to be a homemaker and selflessly devoted her life to her husband and family. She loved to sew, can, and bake pies for her family. She also had an ear for music, and with only one year of music lessons, served as both pianist and organist for several churches. In later years, she was an active member of the Coopersville Old Kids Choir and enjoyed singing and reading to all of her grandchildren. She was an amazingly strong woman who lived her life with grace and humor. She always carried a beautiful smile on her face, spoke an encouraging word, accompanied with lots of hugs and kisses. She will be forever loved and cherished by her children Brenda (Jeff) Lindberg, Walter J Bolthouse (Sandi Nucci), Shirley Hall, Nancy (Craig) Gravelin, Mary (Steve) DeVos and Marvin (Dawn) Bolthouse, 13 grandchildren whom she loved dearly, William, Rebecca, and Sara Lindberg, Lisa (Eric) Smith, Russell Hall, Anna, Kristen, and Nicholas Gravelin, Melissa and Natalie DeVos, and Grace, Clairice, and James Walter Bolthouse. She is also survived by her Aunt Lorraine Parsons of Atlanta, GA, sister-in-laws Ruth Hoffer, Esther Esther of Allendale, and Joyce Bolthouse, June (Roy) Bolthouse, and Susan (Bernard) Bolthouse all of Marne as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Christian Rest Home for their loving and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 am at the Marne United Methodist Church, 14861 Washington St, Marne, MI 49435, with Rev Tommy Boutell officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Memorial Park, Standale, MI. Relatives and friends may meet the family 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm Friday at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville.
