Richard Hammond Jr.

Richard Dale Hammond Jr., 67, of Casnovia, Michigan, passed away on December 4. 2022, surrounded by family and friends. He was born to parents Richard and Arlene (Pastoor) Hammond, on December 20, 1954, in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Richard graduated from Jenison High School where he earned many athletic awards in track and football. After graduation he attended Grand Valley State University for a year before taking a hand at the family business Hammond Construction, which, he owned and operated for the last 37 years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, boating at the Hardy Dam, bird hunting, fishing, wild game dinners at the Marne VFW Hall, and he was always cracking a joke. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his children, Shawnee (Josh) Marshall, Ashley (Adam) Weller, Rochelle (Chad) Sather, Arielle (Jake) Watson, Ricky Hammond III; grandchildren, Devin Pyne, Henry Marshall, Caleb Pyne, Rowan Marshall, Ryann Sather, Casey Sather, Emma Watson, Elijah Watson; brother Tom (Linda) Hammond, sister’s Rhonda (Gary) Beld, Sherri (Marty) Rodriguez, brother Mike (Julie) Hammond, brother Rob Hammond; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Arlene (Pastor) Hammond. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church, 300 Cleveland St. E, Coopersville, MI 49404 with Rev. Joel Hoyer officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 11:00 – 1:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church, 300 Cleveland St. E, Coopersville, MI 49404. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marne American Legion Hall post 376, 1469 Arthur St, Marne, MI 49435.
