Phyllis Maxine Cunningham, aged 98 of Muskegon passed away at home on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Phyllis was born on August 17, 1927 to the late Riley and Mae (Broton) Botruff in Muskegon, MI. Phyllis married Jack Cunningham the love of her life on June 25, 1948. Phyllis graduated from Ravenna Schools in Ravenna MI. Phyllis enjoyed working at Ravenna Elementary School where she was a teacher’s aide helping children in reading. Phyllis also enjoyed spending time up north at Campbell Lake with her family and friends, going to restaurants and playing her pull tabs. Jack and Phyllis also enjoyed going to Florida after they retired for many years. She also enjoyed talking to their bird Sinbad. Phyllis was an active member of the Ravenna American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years. She will be missed deeply by her sons, Greg (Margaret) Cunningham and Bruce Cunningham; grandchildren, Marci, Bryan, Steve, Michelle, Nathan, Sarah, Renee, Matthew, Jason and Julie; also 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jane (Frank) Coletta and Bernice”Bing” Botruff; many nieces and nephews. Phyllis had a special friend that helped care for her, Jenny Bazany. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son, Richard “Dick”, daughter in law, Linda Cunningham, daughter, Barbara, son in law, Bruce “Nick” Gelderloos, sisters, Clara (Charles “Chuck”) Surma and Thelma (Robert “Bob”) Budai. In keeping with her wish cremation has taken place with Interment in Ravenna Twp. Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held Saturday, September 20th, 1PM to 4PM at the Ravenna American Legion, 3590 Conklin St, Ravenna MI. 49451.
