Nellie Lucas

LUCAS - Mrs. Nellie Kortenhoeven Vellenga Lucas, aged 88, of Coopersville, was called home to her Lord Sunday, January 8, 2012. Nellie was born Oct 13, 1923 in Highland, Indiana. She enjoyed sewing and baking but was known for her knitting. She knitted many mittens, hats and baby items which she donated to many churches and organizations in Coopersville and the surrounding area. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, sons, Philip and Michael, granddaughter, Andrea, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Ruth) Lucas, David (Marcia) Lucas, Daniel (Cynthia) Lucas, Brenda (Stephen) Shook, Cynthia Lucas; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sister, Trudy Dykhuis; sister-in-law, Pearl Kortenhoeven; brother and sister in laws, Jacob Lucas, Betty DeHaan, Bertha Lucas, Esther Betten, Doris Pennell, Ada (Harley) Rillema, Robert Lucas and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday 1:30 pm at the Eastmanville United Reformed Church, 6845 Leonard St, Coopersville, MI., Rev Jeph Nobel officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville. Memorial donations may be made to the Andrea Rae Lucas Fund at the Christian Learning Center Network for special needs children or African Inland Missions in support of Ed and Rachel Andersen.
