It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marlin Gene VanDenBrink, 67, of Coopersville, MI, who passed away peacefully on June 9th surrounded by loved ones at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 8th, 1959, in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Gysbert and Geraldine (Vanegan) VanDenBrink. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his special aunt Suzanne VanEngen and brother-in-law, Dennis Cushway.
Marlin will be remembered for his quick wit, immense talent, and deep love for his family. He possessed a legendary sense of humor and was always cracking jokes, bringing laughter and light to every room he walked into.
Professionally, he spent the majority of his life working as a carpenter, where he was known for his high-quality workmanship and sharp attention to detail. Marlin was incredibly proud to have earned an award for building the first Energy Star home in Michigan. Outside of work, his time was best spent crafting beautiful projects in his workshop, making special treasures for his grandchildren, deer hunting, enjoying NASCAR races, and sharing laughs with his family.
He is survived by his children, David VanDenBrink, Melissa (Steve) Crosby and Jessica (John) Kiryanoff; grandchildren, Preslee VanDenBrink, Leonardo Crosby, Livianna Crosby, Kennedy Kiryanoff and Cameron Kiryanoff; siblings, Henry VanDenBrink, Jay VanDenBrink, Robert (Pam) VanDenBrink, Julie (Joe) Palma, Sandy Cushway, Loren (Carla) VanDenBrink, Randy (Coralee) VanDenBrink and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Coopersville Christian Reformed Church, 200 Henry St, Coopersville, MI 49404. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at church, with Rev. Lloyd Hemstreet officiating. Burial will take place in Coopersville-Polkton Twp. cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the VanDenBrink family to assist with medical expenses C/O David VanDenBrink. Condolences for the family may be left on Marlin’s guestbook at www.throopfh.com.
