Marguerite Kastelin

July 29, 1921 — May 23, 2014

Marguerite éaA"Margeéa Kastelin (VanderWerf), age 92, of Newaygo, formerly of Coopersville, began eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 23, 2014. She passed peacefully at home on Pickeral Lake with her husband of 73 years by her side. She was born on July 29, 1921, and on March 15, 1941, she married Leonard James Kastelin. They resided in Grand Rapids until moving to Coopersville in 1948, when they opened the dream of their lives----Kastelin Bakery on Main St. Marge decorated many cakes, working side by side by her baker husband! Together, they made the wedding cakes for their four children and each married grandchild. Marge served her Lord faithfully, being active at Coopersville Reformed Church, Church of the Savior (Coopersville), Church of the Living Christ (Fremont), and most recently, Family of God Community Church (Newaygo). She cooked and organized many church dinners, led Youth Groups, and found joy in serving Jesus. Family and friends fondly remember the fun times at their cottage on Nichols Lake and later at Pickeral Lake. Retirement years were spent at Bayshore Windmill Gardens (Bradenton, Florida) where they danced many a night away! Wherever mom and dad were--the family followed! Marge consumed countless cups of coffee enjoyed with a donut. Knitting was her favorite pastime, and we have baby sweaters, adult ski sweaters and literally thousands of knitted dishcloths to prove it! Marge is survived by the love of her life, her dear husband, Len. She also leaves behind four children: Marilyn and Gary Barrett (Newaygo), Judy and Tom Ruster (Hartland), Barb and Rick Boss (Newaygo), Jim and Deb Kastelin (Ludington), 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, a sister, Kathleen Miedema (Jenison), and a brother, Gerald VanderWerf (Lansing). Marge is preceded in death by their son, Lawrence James Kastelin (April 1955). To remember and celebrate Marge's life, the visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, from 5:00-8:00pm at Family of God Community Church, 90 Quarterline Rd., Newaygo, MI. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, May 28 1:00 pm at the church with Rev. Larry Doorn officiating. Burial in Fairplains Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI. Memorial contributions may be given to Western Theological Seminary, Holland, MI. An online guestbook may be signed at www.throopfh.com. Throop Funeral Home Coopersville, Ph. 616-837-8161
