Margaret Schaaphok

January 11, 1926 — August 7, 2014

Margaret Leischen Schaaphok (Metten), age 88, of Lamont, passed away peacefully and went to live with her Lord while surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 7, 2014. She was born on January 11, 1926, to Jacob and Christine (Schmidt) Metten and was one of eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Douglas, sisters Ida Wallinga and Gertrude Potts and brothers Walter, Paul, Henry, and Jacob Metten. She was a loving wife, mom, grandma, sister, friend, and a blessing all of her life. Margaret will always be remembered and missed by her husband of 66 years, Peter; children Kristie (James) VanHuis, and Dale Schaaphok; twin grandchildren Katie and Joshua VanHuis. She will also be missed by her baby sister Ruth Moe McNitt, sister-in-law Joyce Metten, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Betty Stroven. Special thanks go to Cindi from Great Lakes Caring Hospice for the wonderful care Margaret received. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Coopersville Reformed Church, 423 W Randall St, Coopersville, with Pastor Arnold VanBeek officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood cemetery in Lamont. Visitation will be held Sunday August 10, 2014, from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville. Memorial Donations may be made to Church of the Saviour for their wheelchair van ministry, Great Lakes Caring Hospice, or Fountain View Assisted Living.
