Margaret Delaat

October 24, 1933 — January 26, 2020

Margaret Rose (Meyer) DeLaat of Grand Rapids MI, age 86, went home to her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, January 26.  She was born to Frederick and Valeria (Judeikis) Meyer on October 24, 1933 in Philadelphia PA.  She graduated from Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in June 1951 and was immediately employed as a bookkeeper for an Insurance Broker. Margaret met Jack in July 1950 while he was stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Station.  He was stationed in Guam in November 1950 and that started a long distance friendship and romance.  They married in Yuma AZ on June 2, 1956. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Jack (Jan 2016), son Stephen (April 2016) , and great grandson Jack Alexander. She is survived by son Keith (Kelli) DeLaat , daughters Valerie (Michael) Potter, Janet DeLaat and Joanne Maki.  Grandchildren Meagan (Aaron), Mary, Kalee (Evan), Seth, Kristie (Paul), Bradly (Mary), Karen, Joseph (Nova), Brian (Leaha), Matthew (Asuka), Danielle (Lee), Blake, Connor and 11 great grandchildren. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, reading her Bible, fiction and nonfiction.  She enjoyed fishing with Jack at Cranberry Lake and traveling and living in the UP. A memorial service will not be held and a private burial ceremony will take place in the near future.
