FORTIN – Mrs. Marcy (Markovich) Fortin, on October 3, 2026 met face to face with God and they both smiled. Marcy passed away after her battle with cancer at the age of 83. Marcy was born on February 18, 1943 to Paul and Julia (Kapolka) Markovich. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Robert “Bob” Fortin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Irene Fortin, and father-in-law, Raymond Fortin, brothers-in-law Dr. Roger Schoenherr, and James “Biff” Fortin.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family. She was truly the kindest person you could ever meet – gentle in spirit, generous with her heart, and endlessly caring toward everyone around her. Her legacy lives on through the values she taught, the love she gave so freely, and in every life she touched.
Marcy graduated from St. Clement High School in Center Line MI in 1961. She went on to earn her Bachelors’ Degree from Central Michigan University. She taught at Utica Public Schools and retired from teaching at Coopersville Community Education.
Marcy lived her life with humility and grace, never seeking recognition, yet leaving a lasting impression wherever she went. Her warmth, patience, and compassion were constant. Her kindness was something people remember not because it was grand, but because it was genuine. To know her was to feel comforted, accepted, and loved.
Family was the center of her world. She found her greatest joy in being surrounded by those she loved, whether through shared meals, quiet conversations, or simply being present. She had a remarkable way of making people feel cared for and important, often through the smallest gestures that meant the most. Her love was steady, unconditional, and deeply felt by all who knew her.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a loving family member, and a source of quiet strength. Her presence brought calm and reassurance, and her absence will be deeply felt. Though our hearts ache, we are grateful for the many years we were blessed to have her with us and the lessons she taught us.
She is survived by her children, Beth (Ron) Veldman, grandchildren Sarah Veldman, Emily(Colton) Tuck, Jason Veldman; Ellen (Tim) Ronning, grandchildren Adam Ronning (R.J. Lonczkowski), Brad (Mary) Ronning; Barb (Mike) Keefe, grandchildren Joe Keefe (Olivia Jolliffe) and Maddie Keefe; and Julie (Ted) Rossman, grandchildren, Stuart Rossman (Emily Post), Sylvie Rossman, Calvin Rossman. She held special memories of granny camp with her grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Pat Schoenherr, as well as her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Betty Fortin and sister-in-law, Barb Fortin. Special memories are held through many nieces and nephews, extended family, and many special friendships.
