Linda Joye (Benaway) Kunze, passed into eternity April 14, 2026 in Grand Rapids, the city where she was born on March 27, 1950 to Elon and Lillian (Wolbers) Benaway.
Linda was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, educator and friend who found happiness in helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ellen Hartger.
She is survived by her sons, Christopher Kunze (Mary), and Jason Kunze. Her grandchildren, Preston, Aurora, Peyton and Jackson, her sister Sandy (Dave) Meekhof, her brother David Benaway (Kim) and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her cherished puppies, Bailey, Lexie, Missy and Polly who brought her great comfort and joy.
She graduated from Northview HS, class of 1968 where she excelled academically and athletically through cheerleading and several sports. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree and later a Master of Education degree from Grand Valley State University. She taught at Northview schools where she founded the before and after school program that was a benefit to students and families. She later served as a teacher for the Michigan Correctional Facilities in Muskegon and Ionia where she also developed and helped implement programs within the system.
Linda was a "sharp-shooter", a sport her dad taught her when she was young, and she enjoyed motorcycling, but her rescue pups were dearest to her heart. Her faith was an important facet of her life and gave her peace through life's problems. She had a giving spirit and found happiness in her family and friends. She was an intelligent, thoughtful and spirited woman who lived life with purpose and heart.
In keeping with Linda’s wish cremation has taken place A Life Celebration Gathering will be announced soon.
