Leota Short

Leota M. Short, age 82, passed away Oct 27, 2015 with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Zelma (Palmiter) Benedict, infant brother Kenneth, brother Russell, sister-in-law Cleo Benedict, brothers-in-law, Robert Habenicht and Ken Reeves, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Virginia Short, Ernest and Cassie Short, Charles Short, Helen and Robert McMullin and Betty and Vern Dailey. Leota was a long time active member of Wright Seventh Day Adventist Church where she played the organ for many years and was retired from Adema Generator Services in Coopersville where she worked as office manager. Leota is survived by her husband of 58 yrs., Robert Short; children, Sheila and Dave Gardineer, Ed Short and Darla Short, grandchildren, Michael (Stefanie) Nelsen, David (Brittany) Nelsen, Steven Nelsen, Kevin Gardineer, Emily Gardineer, Erik (Alexandra) Short and Austin (Kindal) Short; great grandchild, Stellar Nelsen; siblings, Agnes (Robert) Merchant, Ralph (Beverly) Benedict, Ardis Reeves, Carole (Dave) Hoekenga and Roy Benedict; sister-in-law Betty Short; many nieces and nephews and former son-in-law Gary Nelsen. The family wishes to thank Mark and Deb Hudelson for the kindness shown to Leota and Bob. Funeral services will be held Friday 1:00 p.m. at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville with Pastor Jared Thomas officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeshore Cemetery in Grand Haven, MI. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home in Coopersville.
