Karlyn Roberta Hempfling, age 92, of Hart formerly of Coopersville, passed away on November 1, 2026. She was born on April 25, 1934, and lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and love for the people around her.
Karlyn was a friendly and loving woman who touched the lives of many through her warm spirit and gentle nature. She was known for her generous heart and for the way she made others feel welcome and cared for. Her presence brought comfort and joy to family and friends alike, and she will be remembered for the many ways she shared her love throughout her life.
Karlyn was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Vernice (French) Johnson; her husband, Ted Hempfling; her son, Vance Nyberg; her daughter, Valerie Nyberg; and her sister, Karen “Becca” Thorne. Though these losses were deeply felt, Karlyn carried forward with strength and grace, holding close the memories of those she loved and the family bonds that remained important to her throughout her life.
She is survived by her children, Mitchell (Yumiko) Nyberg, Keith Nyberg, and Vanessa (Scott) Sanders; step children, Jessica Cerchiori, Matthew Hempfling and Jill Ball. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Sylvia Kline, Chloe Matthews, Konner Nyberg, Sammantha Nyberg, Ian Nyberg, Sophia (Nyberg) Carrick, Julien Nyberg, Rex Sanders, August Sanders, and Wynn Sanders, along with several great-grandchildren who brought her great pride and happiness; daughter-in-law Jeannine Nyberg and former daughter-in-law, Christine (Janose) Morris. Her family was a source of joy in her life, and she treasured the time she spent with them.
Karlyn owned and operated Ted’s Pizza in Coopersville for more than 20 years until her retirement. Through her work, she became a familiar and respected part of the community, and her dedication to her business reflected her strong work ethic and commitment to serving others. She took pride in what she built and in the relationships she formed along the way. Her years at Ted’s Pizza were a meaningful part of her life and a testament to her perseverance and care. She enjoyed listening to music, playing the organ at church and was a member of the Sunshine band.
Outside of work, Karlyn especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She valued simple moments, shared laughter, and the comfort of being surrounded by those she loved. Her life was enriched by the connections she made, and she found happiness in the everyday joys of companionship and togetherness. Those who knew her will remember her for her welcoming nature, her thoughtful ways, and the love she gave so freely.
Karlyn’s life was one of devotion to family, hard work, and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will be cherished always, and her influence will remain in the hearts of those she touched.
