John Jay Spinner

John Jay Spinner, age 84, of Coopersville, MI, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on June 17, 1942, in Coopersville, MI on the family farm. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a beloved member of the family. He will be remembered for his kindness, strength, work ethic, faith, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.

John proudly served in the United States Army National Guards. After his military service, he devoted himself to his family and his career at the Ottawa County Road Commission, where he worked until he retired in 2002 after 35 years. After his retirement he especially enjoyed tinkering with small engine repair and cherished his time spent with family and friends.

John is survived by his loving wife Anita of 61 years, his children Pamela (Kevin) Nietering, Melissa Spinner, and John Spinner, his grandchildren Julie (Trevor) Denny, Derek (Samantha) Nietering, Jared Nietering and Daniel (Katie) Nietering, and his great grandchildren Kiley & Karysn Denny and Finnley, Julius & Juniper Nietering, and his sister Mary Lou Terpstra, along with multiple nieces, nephews and many other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Elizabeth (Brifnek) Spinner, his siblings Joseph Spinner, Louise Spinner, Louella Bing, Elizabeth Kurtz, Alfred Spinner, and George Spinner along with his great granddaughter Kimber “Bug” Denny.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11am at Ottawa Center Chapel located at 8991 Leonard Street in Coopersville. Visitation will take place at 10am prior to the service. And a luncheon will follow after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Ottawa Center Chapel, where he was a member for 61 years.

John’s legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. We are grateful for the many ways he made our lives better.
