Joan Elizabeth (Lorenski) Nemecek

Joan Elizabeth Nemecek (Lorenski) age 92 passed peacefully to Jesus at home Sunday, May 18, 2025. She was born in Grand Rapids Michigan, July 16, 1932 to parents Bill and Helen (Niemczyk) Lorenski and attended Sacred Heart School. She met her husband Otto Nemecek on a blind date while he was attending Aquinas College. They were married May 5 of 1951. Their first child of six, Paula, was born July of 1952 followed by Deborah, Michael, Christina, Brian, and Gregory. Joan was a stay at home mom and proud of it. She had a servant's heart toward her family and anyone she came in contact with.

She was preceded in death by daughter Deborah Beveridge; brtohers-in-law, Leon (Joanne) Nemecek, Lawrence (Sandy) Nemecek, John Crowley and sister-in-law, Marlene Nemecek. She is survived by her husband of 73 years Otto; children, Paula Nemecek (Holman); Michael Nemecek; (Barbara) Christina Nemecek (Beveridge); Brian Nemecek (Blanca); and Greg Nemecek (Drema); 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Marge Crowley, Barbara (Bob) Crowley; brother, Edward (Diane) Lorenski and brother-in-law, Ivan Nemecek.

After her children were grown Joan worked for the Grand Rapids Press and later, 17 years as a mail carrier for the Postal Service in Byron Center. She was always proud of the fact that she never had to call a wrecker to help her with winter mail deliveries. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and her beloved cat Amy. Some of her favorite things were an ice cold Coke or chocolate candy of any kind. Her family will dearly miss her funny stories from her past and her special advice of "Don't do anything I wouldn't do but if you do, don't get caught!"

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 22, 2025 at St Michael’s Catholic Church, 17150 88th Ave, Coopersville, MI 49404 with Fr Michael Hodges Celebrant. Burial will be in St Michael’s Cemetery.

Visitation will take place 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. with Rosary Prayers at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, MI 49404 and also 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St Michael’s Catholic Church prior to the Mass.
