Joan Kay (Koning) Hecksel

Joan Kay (Koning) Hecksel, aged 83, of Coopersville, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025 at her home. She was born in Polkton Twp. MI. to the late John and Janet (Hoving) Koning. Joan's life journey was a testament to her unwavering faith and the love she cultivated within her family and community.

Joan was a graduate of Coopersville High School's class of 1960. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica and a devoted prayer warrior. Joan found solace and joy in the tranquility of her yard, tending to her flowers with a tender hand and a warm heart. This passion was a reflection of her nurturing soul, as she cultivated beauty in both her garden and the hearts of those who knew her. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. 

Joan is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Hecksel; daughter, JoDee (Troy) Geldersma; son, Jeff (Luanne) Modderman; daughter-in-law, Sue Modderman; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Brown and Marcia (Eugene) La Madeline; brother, John Koning and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was greeted in Heaven by her son James Hecksel and her parents who preceded her in death. She now rests in the eternal embrace of her loved ones who passed before her, leaving those on earth to cherish her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Relatives and Friends will be Friday morning September 12, 2025 one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at St Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 12, 2025 at St Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica with Rev Micah Brooks Officiating. A private family interment service will be held at Nunica Cemetery.
