Joan Lee Eberlein

Jun 3, 1946 — Jun 20, 2026

Joan Lee Eberlein, age 80, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on June 20, 2026, in Grand Rapids. She was born on June 3, 1946, in Muskegon, Michigan and later moved to Grand Rapids, she lived a life marked by generosity, faith, and love.

Joan grew up in Grand Rapids and was a graduate of Union High School. She later attended Aquinas College and carried the values of hard work, kindness, and devotion throughout her life. She married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Eberlein, and together they built a beautiful life centered on family, faith, and shared memories. Their marriage was a lasting example of commitment and companionship, and Joan treasured the many years they spent together.

For 35 years, Joan served at St. Mary’s Hospital as a secretary, where she was known for her dependable nature, warm spirit, and steady presence. Her work reflected the same care and dedication she brought to every part of her life.

Joan was a faithful member of Grand Rapids First Church and found great joy in serving with the children in Sunday School and the City children programs at church. Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she lived it through her actions, her kindness, and the way she cared for others.

Her greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and GiGi. She loved her family deeply and took great pride in each of them. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Eberlein, her son, Mark Eberlein and mother Gean Dalrymple. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Kamerling and Noella Bradly. She is survived by her daughter, Angel (Dan) Grit; daughter-in-law, Karen Eberlein; grandchildren, Alex (Stephanie) Eberlein, Kristina Eberlein, Danielle (Nathan) Zomerlei, Angela (Joshua) Sochanek, Abby (Branden) Zomerlei, Nicholas Rottier, and Alexis Grit; 8 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Kenny Eberlein and several nieces and nephews. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Joan especially loved the holidays, and Christmas held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed shopping for presents for her family and friends and found joy in giving to others through clothing and toy donations at Christmas time. She also loved making quilts for family and friends, creating gifts that carried her care and thoughtfulness into the homes of those she loved. She and Jerry also traveled to many wonderful places together, and those journeys gave them many cherished memories.
