Janice Marie (Bakes) Palma, age 86, of Coopersville entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Jan was born June 15, 1934 in North Dakota and moved with her family to Michigan as a young girl. She attended Trinity Lutheran School in Conklin and graduated from Coopersville High School in 1952. She married Dennis “Joe” Palma on September 5, 1959. They raised their boys in Coopersville and lived in the area until they both retired from Leigh Products in 1986 and moved to their beloved cottage on the lake in Brohman, MI where they spent many years fishing and enjoying the outdoors until Joe’s passing on December 22, 2001.
Jan was also proceeded in death by her parents John and Marie Bakes, her sisters Doris Sadowski and Norma Fahling; and her brothers-in-law Jim Fahling, David Stoppenhagen and David Reeves. She is survived by her sons Jay (Shelly) Palma and Lance (Sally) Palma and her beloved grandchildren: Aaron (Allie) Palma, Wesley Palma, Molly (Nick) DeJong, Abbey Palma and Wyatt Palma and her great-grandchildren: Samuel and Lucy DeJong and Aiken Joe Palma. Also surviving are her sisters Joyce Stoppenhagen and Sharon Reeves, her brother-in-law Ray Sadowski and her sisters-in-law Betty Dykstra and Margaret Palma as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jan was a woman of strong convictions and tremendous faith. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service. Those wishing to make a charitable contribution in her honor are asked to consider Faith Hospice, Fountain View Assisted Living or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fountain View Assisted Living and Faith Hospice for the care and compassion they gave Janice in her final days.
