James Busman

May 27, 1917 — January 14, 2013

James J. Busman, aged 95, walked into the open arms of Jesus on Monday, January 14, 2013. He was born at home on May 27, 1917 and was one of 10 siblings. Jim was a life long resident of Coopersville. He was a very successful farmer who also sold Patz Barn Equipment and Rochester Silos, won trips for his high sales volume, and did roofing and cement work on the side. Jim was a board member of the Ottawa County Soil and Water Conservation and it's director for 13 years for which he received a special tribute from State Senator, Leon Stille. Jim was elected to the Coopersville School Board. He was very active with Gideons International, a member of Coopersville Reformed Church, where he served as Elder many terms, and taught the Adult Women's Sunday School Class for over 60 years. Jim's expertise in farming won him many awards. Jim was quick to lend a hand, give a word of advice or help someone financially if there was a need. He loved being with his children and especially playing cards and will be sorely missed at the weekly family games! But his greatest love was his Savior, Jesus Christ, and he never hesitated to share the salvation message with others. He is survived by his wife, Helene, to whom he was married for over 71 years; children, Richard (Karen) Busman, Karen (Nate) Burnell, Stanley (Ruth) Busman, Sandy (Ken) Cott; grandchildren, Kris (Sue) Busman, Ryan (Carrie) Busman, Todd (Jamie) Busman, Shelly (Curt) VanBeek, Cindy (Steve) Gronsman, Kenny, Kelsey and David Cott; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Frances Hovingh; brothers, Earl (Norma) Busman, Rev. John (Joyce) Busman; brother-in-law, Dale Alberda; sister-in-law, Florence "Pokey" DeGraff and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 1:30 pm Friday at the Coopersville Reformed Church, Rev. Greg Stamm and Rev. Arnold VanBeek officiating. Burial will be in the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville and Friday one hour prior to the funeral service at church. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, Grand Valley Camp, P.O. Box 336, Allendale, MI 49401. An online guestbook may be signed at www.throopfh.com.
