Greg Allyn Van Til, age 61, of Allendale, passed away Friday, November 28, 2025. He was born in Zeeland, MI to Gary and Maxine (Cooper) Van Til. Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Todd Van Til; niece, Sierra Zylstra; best friend, Darrell Boerema and favorite dogs, Winston and Bode.
Greg cherished family time so much in the last four years. He enjoyed dinners with his children, siblings, parents, and everyone in between. He looked forward to seeing everyone, and it brought a lot of joy to his life. A gathering of any kind did. He was very generous, especially to his children. If he heard them offhandedly mention that they liked or wanted something, they'd have it within a couple days. He would also gift them things without request, knowing exactly what they wanted or needed.
He worked all his life in road construction and most recently was working as a superintendent for Rieth-Riley construction. At his job, he did his part and more, making sure everyone got the help they needed. He valued a job well done, and it showed in the quality of his and the paving crews' work. He enjoyed fishing and watching anything sports, especially football, and cheering on his two favorite teams: the Michigan Wolverines and the New England Patriots.
Greg loved dogs, and made sure every one of them he had was spoiled. His most recent grand-dog, Kya, was doted on endlessly by him. Everything he ate, she ate as well, and in excellent portions. They played together every night. She knew the words, "Say goodnight to Grandpa." While he did not like cats nearly as much, he made sure his daughter's cat, Max, was taken care of as well. Her cat was fed lunch meat and Cheetos, among many other things.
Greg spent his life taking care of others, whether it be at home or at work. He tried very hard to provide for everything and everyone. He had a very full plate, but gave without expecting in return. Those who are grieving his loss appreciate and miss him so much. He was very loved.
Greg was an excellent cook. He rarely followed recipes, but had a knack for creating the most delicious meals. In the winter when he was laid off, his family enjoyed the spoils of his free time with various pastas, soups, steaks, and more.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Alex Van Til and Caleb Van Til; grand dog, Kya; parents, Gary (Maxine) Van Til; sister, Jodi (Scott) Dekkenga; brother, Marc (Vonda) Van Til and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wish cremation has taken place. A celebration of life open house will be held at a later date.
