Gloria Jean (Wyer) Goosen

December 9, 1939 — June 3, 2025

Gloria Jean Goosen, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 85. Born Gloria Wyer on December 9, 1939, in Sturgis, MI, she was the daughter of the late Lyle Wyer and Maude Streeter. She had three brothers: Jack Wyer, Louie Streeter, and Bill Streeter.

Gloria fell in love at a young age and married Clayton Goosen in 1957. They shared 42 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 1999. Together, they had three children: William, Kimberlee (Guy), and Brian (Dena). Gloria was also blessed with 15 grandchildren—Brandon, Keenan, Kristen, Lacey, Brandie, Brian, Alex, Josh, Diane, Missy, Mike, Aaron, Jill, Jenny, and Jeremy—as well as 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Gloria retired from Leigh Products and found the most joy at home, where she devoted countless hours to her breathtaking flower gardens. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends, where all were made to feel welcome—and well-fed. Known for her generous hospitality, she never let a guest leave hungry, often saying, “Eat, eat!” even after you were full.

Gloria was easy to talk to, offered wise advice, and gave the kind of belly laughs that linger in memory. Her home was a paradise for grandkids—full of bonfires, woodland walks, checkers games, a frog-filled pond, homemade ice cream, her famous cinnamon rolls, and a variety of sweet pets. She loved animals deeply and always had at least one dog and one cat—often thanks to her granddaughter, Brandie. Gloria often said she loved animals more than people, and though it may have sounded harsh, it was always said with a twinkle in her eye and a heart full of love.

To know Gloria—to have sat at her round kitchen table, heard her stories, and shared life with her—was a true blessing. We thank God for the 85 beautiful years we had with her. She taught us all about strength, forgiveness, joy, and faith. A celebration of life open house will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St. Coopersville, MI 49404.
