David William Kromer

David William Kromer, age 91, of Coopersville, known to many as Dave, passed away in Big Rapids, Michigan. He was born on November 10, 1934, and lived a life marked by kindness, intelligence, and deep faith.

Dave served his country in the United States Army, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to others. Following his military service, he attended engineering school, then returned home to marry and join the work force. He worked for Keebler, where he built a long and steady career before retiring. He was respected for his strong work ethic, practical skills, and ability to solve problems. There was very little he could not repair, and he was often the person family and friends turned to when something needed to be fixed.

He loved spending time outdoors, whether he was hiking, fishing, or biking. He also enjoyed photography, capturing moments and memories that reflected the beauty he saw in the world around him. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan and followed the team with loyalty and enthusiasm through every season.

Those who knew Dave will remember him as a wonderful storyteller with a remarkable memory and a deep knowledge of Coopersville, Michigan. He could talk about the town with ease and familiarity, sharing stories that brought its history and people to life. His conversations were often filled with humor, insight, and warmth, and he had a way of making others feel welcome and included. His presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a long time member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and very active within the church.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Norma “Jane” Kromer, and his son, Michael Kromer. He is survived by his children, Angela (Kerry) Rattinger, Bob (Mary) Kromer, and Mary (Terry) Leavell; grandchildren, Emma Kromer, Ben (Darcy) Weiss, Steve Weiss, Nick Weiss, Joe (Alli) Kromer, Jordan (Francisco) Kromer, Andrew (Amanda) Kromer, Jennifer (Andy) Rechtzigel, Scott Mierendorf, Tom Mierendorf, and Jeremy (Halie) Leavell; 8 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Laurie Kromer; sister, Mary Lou; brother-in-law, Jim (Glenda) Wagner; sisters-in-law, Barb Rickert and Debbie Schoo; and several nieces and nephews.

Dave’s life was one of steady devotion, quiet strength, and genuine care for others. He will be remembered for his faith, his intelligence, his generosity of spirit, and the many ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His family and friends will carry forward his memory with love and gratitude for the time they shared with him.

Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday, July 27, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 17150 88th Ave, Coopersville, MI 49404 followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Michael Hodges celebrant. Burial will take place directly after the service in St. Michael's Cemetery.
