Charles "Chuck" Nathan Hammond Jr.

August 4, 1950 — May 29, 2026

Charles Nathan Hammond Jr., known affectionately as Chuck, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the age of 75.

He was born on August 4, 1950, in Muskegon, Michigan, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew him. Chuck was a funny, loving, and friendly man whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him. He carried himself with kindness and a steady sense of humor that made him easy to love and impossible to forget.

Chuck worked in maintenance at Allendale Public School, where he was known for his dependable nature and strong work ethic. He took pride in doing his job well and was respected by those who worked alongside him. His dedication to his work reflected the same care and commitment he showed in every part of his life.

He had a deep love for John Deere tractors and enjoyed spending time around them whenever he could. That interest led him to be active with the Coopersville Farm Museum and the Coopersville Antique Tractor Society, where he found friendship and fellowship among others who shared his appreciation for farming history and antique machinery. He also enjoyed traveling and especially treasured the time he spent with family and friends, making memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Susan Hammond, and his sister, Diane. Though he experienced loss in his life, he remained a source of strength and warmth to those around him. His memory will continue to live on through the many lives he touched and the family who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his daughters, Theresa Williams, Sandra (Wayne) Ergang, Jennifer (Daniel) Snow, and Angela (Michael) Buchanan. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Patricia Leister, Janet Crowley, Kathy Rohm, Beth Graves, and Rebecca Barber; his sister-in-law, Kathy Miller; his brothers-in-law, David Strong and Robert Rogers; and many nieces and nephews who will remember his kindness, humor, and love.

Chuck will be remembered for the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the friendships he built throughout his life. His family and friends will forever hold close the memories of his friendly smile, his easygoing nature, and the genuine care he showed to others. His legacy is one of devotion, warmth, and a life well lived.
