Carl Goosen

July 31, 1935 — August 26, 2018

Carl “Butch” Goosen, age 83, of Coopersville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018. Butch was born in Ravenna to the late Constan “Stan” and Sella (Notenbaum) Goosen. He worked as a farmer and as a die setter in Spring Lake. In addition to his parents Butch was preceded in death by his siblings and in-laws, Louis (Rose), Charles (Marcia), Robert, Clayton, Marie (Joe) Behler, Theresa (Howard) Houston, Frances (Martin) Egan and Robert Pelkey. Butch was the 7th child of Stan and Stella but in the eyes of his children he was number one. His family always came first, he worked 2nd shift for many years in order to be home to care for the boys when his wife Marcy was at work, getting the boys breakfast, ready for their day and according to Marcy his wife he was the best Mr Mom ever. He loved family trips to Panama City at spring break with the family and in later years traveling with Marcy. Time spent at Loon Lake enjoying the company of family and friends and giving rides or fishing on his pontoon boat. He enjoyed cars and had several a 55 Chevy, 58 Chevy Impala and a GTO. Carl and Marcy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 16, 2018 with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marcy Goosen (Dreffs); sons, Terry (Janine) Goosen, Todd (Lisa) Goosen and Tom Goosen; grandchildren, Alex (Lindsey) Goosen, Jenna (Scott) Ware, Dyer (Jill) Goosen, Dillon Goosen and Kendall (Joshua) VanSickle; great grandchildren, Gavin Goosen, Marin Goosen and Everett Ware; siblings, Anna (Steve) Marshall, Nancy Pelkey; sister-in-law, Gloria Goosen; special nephews Dave (Pat) Goosen, Bob (Eileen) Behler and many additional nieces and nephews.  In keeping with his wish cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Aug 30, 2018 at St Michael’s Catholic Church, 17150 88th Ave, Coopersville with Fr Ayub Nasar celebrant. Interment will take place at St Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Ravenna. Relatives and friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105 or Kindred Hospice, 625 Kenmoor Ave SE, Suite 115, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
