Bonnie Jean Mauk

Bonnie Mauk, 76, of Mount Pleasant, MI passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Fountain View Assisted Living in Coopersville, MI. She was born December 5, 1949 to Donald and Maxine (Burmeister) Mauk at Shelby, MI.

Bonnie started kindergarten in a two-room school. During this year, she moved to Benona Elementary School, which was the first consolidated K-8 school in the county.

Bonnie was a 1968 graduate of Shelby High School. She graduated in 1972 from Michigan State University with a degree in elementary education. She taught for 43 years, 41 of those with the Chippewa Hills School District. She retired from teaching in 2014 with many wonderful memories.

Besides teaching, Bonnie enjoyed cross stitching, antique samplers, and traveling. She was fortunate to travel to 9 European countries to study with many well-known needlework teachers.

She leaves behind her brother Douglas (Deborah) Mauk of Coopersville, step-sister Susan (David) McNeil of North Muskegon, step-sister-in-law Judy Best of Whitehall, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Maxine Mauk, step-mother Sally Mauk, step-brother Robert Best, nephew Matthew McNeil, great-niece Hannah VanSlyke.

Bonnie was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 11:30 to 1:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, 3401 E River Rd, Mount Pleasant, MI. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 1:00PM at Zion Lutheran Church, 3401 E River Rd, Mount Pleasant, MI. Burial will be in Benona Township Cemetery, 7391 W. Johnson Rd, Shelby, MI at a later date.
