Bernard Henrickson

Bernard “Bernie” Henrickson of Rockford formerly of Coopersville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born in Jenison, MI. on Jan. 2, 1927 to the late Otto and Ida (Bowen) Henrickson. In addition to his parents Bernie was preceded in death by his brother Donald, sister-in-law Janice and nephew Donald Jr. Bernie is survived by his great and loving wife of 67 years, Marilyn; four wonderful sons, David (Barbara) of McBain, Douglas (Bonnie) of Rockford, Dan (Julie) of Grand Rapids, and Darrin of Hudsonville; seven beautiful grandchildren, Kelly (Lance) Taylor, Anne (Al) Thomas and Holly Henrickson all of McBain, Eric Henrickson and Jennifer (Gabriel) Castillo of Grand Rapids, Olivia and Brittany Henrickson and their mother Kelly all of Grand Rapids; he was also blessed with 12 great grandchildren. Bernie graduated from Coopersville High School in 1945 and Grand Rapids Junior College in 1950. He worked for the State of Michigan in the Dept. of Social Services for 33 years. He was a county director during that time and retired in 1989. Bernie was an avid fisherman and hunter and later became an enthusiastic bowler. On one occasion he was involved in a special extended tournament that included both amateurs and nationally recognized professionals. Being partnered with several professionals in three game events, he had the highest score for singles games several times. He also enjoyed golfing and achieved four holes in one. After retirement, he and his wife Marilyn lived in Florida on a golf course each winter for 23 years, after which they moved back to Michigan full time and lived at StoryPointe Retirement Facility in Rockford. A funeral service to remember and celebrate Bernie’s life will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, Aug 24th at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, MI 49404 with visitation Friday from 1 to 3 pm. Burial will be in the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Cemetery.
